Pa finished mowing this forenoon. We went to Mrs. Savery’s funeral this afternoon. When we got back we raked and bunched the most of the hay, also drew a load. We worked until about 8 o’clock tonight. I picked some cherries this forenoon.

We drew hay all day and practically finished tonight. Kate and I went to the meeting of the Misson Club at John Williams tonight. Effie has gone to Whitmore to a dance. It seems like Indian Summer, the air is so smokey.

We found Charlie’s horse sick this morning. We got Dr. Powers from Ann Arbor out here, but he died a few minutes after he came. Uncle John Spoor came this afternoon. Kate and I went to Ann Arbor tonight with Edwin Ball & wife to witness the Fire works. We had a good time.

It has been very hot today. I wrote a couple of letters this forenoon. We went to church this afternoon. I came near melting in the choir. Pa has been sick with a headache all day.

Pa and I cultivated corn all the forenoon. It was so hot we didn’t  go to the field until 4 o’clock this afternoon but we finished by supper time. I felt the heat very much. The ther. [thermometer] indicated 97 in the shade this afternoon. Kate went over to her father’s tonight.

We finished topping a hay stack this morning and then commenced building a fence in the orchard. We got a load of hay aout of the orchard tonight. It has been up to 90 [degrees] in the shade, but is cooler now. Kate came home tonight. Uncle John Spoor was here to dinner.

Kate and I went out to Mr. Appleton’s in Livingstone Co. today. We drove Zoe, the colt. This afternoon we stopped at Mr. Hull’s and saw Mrs. Taylor. We had a boat ride and then drove home by moonlight.

We cut and shocked out wheat today. Pa run the binder and uncle Robert and I set the wheat up. We had to put Zoe on, but she worked well. It has thundered around some today and sprinkled quite hard tonight, but don’t rain yet.

Pa helped E. Ball again today. I hitched up Zoe and Effie and I went to Dexter. I saw uncle John Spoor there, he is starting a harness shop. This afternoon I made a table to put our bookcase on, and Kate painted them. It rained a very little.

Pa and I put a tiled drain through the road near the corners today. It was very hard digging. I found the most moisture directly in the road bed. We washed the double buggy this afternoon.
