Me, Justin, Casey, and Zach hid from Crozier at lunch 2day—it was fun. English was good. Me and Casey wrote notes again. Worked w/ Mindy after school. Homework and story. Went 2 Manda’s after dinner. Visited. Took Ash home. “Dawson’s Creek.” Homework.

God, I was struggling today in school. I could barely keep my eyes open. But I told Zach about how I think Renée likes Mike. At first he thought I was wrong. Then he watched her and was blown away! :) It’s a weird situation. Had Driver’s Ed. Came home. Did homework and story. Called Dad so he’d come and look at my leg. Turns out my “poison ivy” is really lime disease! :( If it hadn’t been checked, it could’ve led to heart disease! Talked to Ashley some.

Didn’t get up until after 7:00. Lo dressed so hurried. Having perm at 11:00 so won’t be home for lunch. Mrs. B. came over. Marvel called. Talked with Edna.

Bright and milder. Breezy. No Eng. class. Practiced. Tennis on courts. Lovely morn. Had fun. I don’t dread tennis now. I get backhand better than forehand — if you could say I “get” either one! Good lunch. In afternoon I went to library and read for history and then read some marriage books too. (Joan’s Pop is here.) Back about 4:30. Betty was in Jane’s room. Neen and Mary Jo were there too — I went in and read a magazine story. Jane was cross as a bear — we had fun teasing her. About 5:45 I started typing Betty’s art term paper — for the practice! Went to dinner. Jane’s and Neen’s 2 girl friends — Polly and Ginny — arrived for the week-end. I typed Betty’s paper all evening. Couldn’t decide whether to go to “Buffalo Bill” at 8:30 — so tossed a coin and it turned out no. Typed til 9:30 — finally finished it — 12 pages! Then Betty and I went to town. Met Jane and co. in front of dairy gazing at some soldiers! We arranged to meet later. Betty and I walked around. Then went to dairy and she bought me a strawberry soda for typing her paper! Saw 2 cute Ensigns! Walked around to bus station and met Jane, Neen and their friends. The latter are very friendly and lots of fun. We came back to campus and went over to the ballroom for tail end of Independent Sing. Polly spent night with Jane. To bed late.

I drove over to Delhi this forenoon, and met aunt Ann at the train. Washed the buggy this afternoon, and Kate and I went to Dexter this evening. It was very warm today. 30 above summer heat.

It has rained considerable today, about all the forenoon, and again tonight.  It was just what we needed, too.  The baby was pretty good this forenoon, but has been fretting all the rest of the day.  I think she is troubled a good deal with colic.  We have just got her quiet, and I hope she will be so all night, but I am fearful about it.  I went home and took dinner today.  Ma was baking for Effie’s wedding, came back tonight away after dinner to help Kate, who is feeling weak and worn out.  Nellie seems to be getting along nicely.  Think I will take a rest while baby is good.

I cut out myself a chemise this morning, going to trim it with pointed tape trimming, some Dora gave me last summer. Did but little to it. Atheline still sick, not able to do anything. Jinnie is not well this afternoon. She attended to Willie & Mr. Henry & I went to turn the goats in the Murry field. Dark when we came back. He has been to Asheville today, got home about two o’clock. Willie has a cold, is very cross.

Up, and was called upon by Sir H. Cholmly to discourse about some accounts of his, of Tangier: and then other talk; and I find by him that it is brought almost effect ([through] the late endeavours of the Duke of York and Duchess, the Queen-Mother, and my Lord St. Albans, together with some of the contrary faction, my Lord Arlington), that for a sum of money we shall enter into a league with the King of France, wherein, he says, my Lord Chancellor —[Clarendon; then an exile in France.]— is also concerned; and that he believes that, in the doing hereof, it is meant that he [Clarendon] shall come again, and that this sum of money will so help the King that he will not need the Parliament; and that, in that regard it will be forwarded by the Duke of Buckingham and his faction, who dread the Parliament. But hereby we must leave the Dutch, and that I doubt will undo us; and Sir H. Cholmly says he finds W. Coventry do think the like. Lady Castlemayne is instrumental in this matter, and, he say never more great with the King than she is now. But this a thing that will make the Parliament and kingdom mad, and will turn to our ruine: for with this money the King shall wanton away his time in pleasures, and think nothing of the main till it be too late. He gone, I to the office, where busy till noon, and then home to dinner, where W. Batelier dined with us, and pretty merry, and so I to the office again. This morning Mr. Sheres sent me, in two volumes, Mariana his History of Spaine, in Spanish, an excellent book; and I am much obliged for it to him.
